Mobile Generator Financing
Finance mobile generator sets from $50k. All mobile configurations, new or used, contractor and rental use. B/C credit OK, funding paced to the completed file.
Mobile power is a broader category than most buyers realize. The towable diesel on a road-legal trailer is the obvious image, but mobile generators also include skid-mounted sets designed for crane or forklift placement, vehicle-mounted units integrated into utility trucks and specialty service vehicles, containerized gensets built for shipping-container transport and rapid deployment, and trailer-mounted power plants above 500 kW that require permits to move on public roads. All of these qualify as mobile generators from a financing perspective, and we fund all configurations from $50,000 up.
The distinction between 'mobile' and 'portable' is loose in the market. In general, portable implies smaller units (under 100 kW) that can be moved with relatively light equipment. Mobile implies the full range of non-permanently-installed sets, including large industrial units designed for deployment and redeployment across multiple sites over their service life. We don't get caught up in the terminology when structuring a deal. Tell us the kW, the configuration, the manufacturer, and the intended use and we'll quote it.
B and C credit are considered. Expect money in hand within roughly two weeks. The full mobile generator spectrum is in scope: open-frame skids, enclosed weatherproof trailers, containerized units, and vehicle-integrated systems. New or used, single unit or fleet purchase. Generator rental companies make up a significant share of our mobile generator financing volume across all unit types.
Open-frame mobile sets are the most basic configuration: a generator on a steel skid with lifting eyes, no enclosure, designed for crane placement at a site and later crane removal. These are common on large construction sites, petrochemical facilities, and industrial plants where the generator moves between project phases. Open-frame sets from major OEMs in the 250 kW to 1,000 kW range run $120,000 to $700,000 new depending on engine platform and whether a sub-base fuel tank is included.
Enclosed trailer-mounted sets in the 100 kW to 500 kW range are the most common type we finance. Sound-attenuated enclosures on road-legal trailers, diesel-fueled, with on-board fuel tanks sized for 8 to 48 hours of operation. Brands including Caterpillar XQ series, Cummins C-series mobile, Multiquip DCA series, and Atlas Copco QAS series dominate this segment.
Containerized generators, where the genset lives inside a modified ISO shipping container, are the most rugged format for austere deployments. Military, emergency management, and energy-sector applications use this format when equipment will be transported by crane, helicopter, or vessel. Vehicle-integrated generators, permanently installed in a truck body, are typically financed separately from the vehicle since the two follow different depreciation schedules and lender appetites.
Mobile generators don't usually arrive alone. For enclosed trailer units, the ATS is typically a separate purchase, delivered to the load site rather than mounted on the generator trailer. We can finance the generator and the automatic transfer switch as a package when they're under the same purchase order.
Distribution equipment, particularly mobile distribution boards, cable reel trailers, and spider box assemblies, extend the usability of a mobile generator but are separate equipment. We handle these case-by-case; when they're purchased alongside a generator as part of a single project scope, we can often include them.
Load bank testing equipment is another common companion to mobile generator fleets. Rental companies and contractors who do pre-delivery testing own their own load banks rather than renting them. A portable resistive load bank at 100 to 500 kW can be financed alongside mobile generators as a separate line item in the deal.
For rental fleet operators, a comprehensive mobile power package might include towable generators, a load bank, distribution equipment, and cable accessories. These can all flow through a single financing arrangement when purchased together. Ask us about fleet packages when your total transaction exceeds $200,000 in multiple items.
Mobile generator financing follows the same path as all equipment lending we do. Three months of business bank statements, a one-page credit application, and a purchase contract or dealer quote. For transactions under $400,000, that's the complete package. No tax returns, no audited financials, no weeks of back-and-forth with a bank credit committee.
We place transactions with a network of equipment lenders who understand power generation equipment, not general commercial banks whose credit officers have never evaluated a generator residual value. That difference in lender sophistication means better rates for borrowers and faster decisions, because the lender already knows what a used CAT XQ230 is worth in the rental market.
If you're buying from a dealer, we wire funds directly to the dealer and you take delivery of the equipment after funding. Private-party purchases work the same way; we verify the seller and wire to a title company or directly to the seller on closing confirmation. Auction purchases require upfront communication about payment deadlines because auction houses typically have strict settlement windows.
For buyers who want to explore both leasing and loan structures before committing, we can run both options simultaneously on the same application. Many buyers of mobile equipment prefer the loan structure for Section 179 deduction purposes, but the lease structure sometimes offers a lower effective rate when the residual value assumptions are favorable.
Tell us the kW, configuration (trailer, skid, containerized), new or used, and your application. We quote same business day. $50,000 minimum, B and C credit considered, funding paced to the completed file.
Questions About Mobile Generator Financing
Straight answers before you send the generator file.
Can I finance a mobile generator that I'm going to deploy internationally for part of the year?
Equipment that leaves the U.S. creates collateral complications: once the equipment is outside the country, the lender's security interest is difficult to enforce. Most lenders require the equipment remain in the U.S. for the term of the loan. If the generator will be based domestically and only occasionally transported for short projects, that's a different conversation than permanent international deployment.
I need a 500 kW mobile generator for a utility emergency response contract. The contract is for 5 years. Can you match the term?
A 60-month term on a 500 kW mobile set is available and standard for equipment of that size. A signed utility contract or LOI as part of the application package strengthens underwriting by showing a defined revenue source tied to the equipment.
The mobile generator I want is currently on a rental contract with someone else. Can I finance it while it's out on rent?
Buying a generator on active rent is a common scenario. The key is that the sale transfers clear title to you, the lender's security interest is properly filed, and the existing rental arrangement ends on a defined date. Coordinate with the seller on the active rental before purchase.
Can I do a sale-leaseback on a mobile generator I've already paid off?
Yes, and that's one of the most efficient uses of equipment equity. Mobile generators in good condition with clear title and documented service history are solid sale-leaseback candidates. We appraise the unit, fund you market value, and structure a lease that the unit's revenue can cover. Most mobile generator sale-leasebacks close in two to three weeks.
My business has two locations in different states. Which state do we use for the financing?
The UCC filing goes in the state where the borrowing entity is domiciled (incorporated or registered as an LLC), not where the equipment is located. If the equipment will be based in a different state than your business registration, both states may need a filing. We handle the lien filing logistics; you don't need to manage that.
