Industrial Generator Financing
Finance industrial generators from $50k. Fund large-frame diesel and gas gensets for manufacturing, utilities, and critical infrastructure. B/C credit OK.
Production lines don't idle politely when the grid faults. A paper mill running a continuous Kraft process, a steel melt shop cycling an electric arc furnace, a water treatment plant holding pressure on a municipal distribution system, each of those operations has one thing in common: they cannot accept an uncontrolled shutdown. The industrial generator is what stands between an orderly ride-through and a six-figure restart event.
We fund industrial generators from $50k, covering large-frame diesel and gaseous gensets rated from 500 kW to multi-megawatt configurations. New iron, used units from plant disposals, and refurbished sets from reputable rebuilders all qualify. B and C credit are both considered. Funding runs one to two weeks on most deals. Tell us the kW rating, the application, and the existing power infrastructure, and we can structure around that.
Industrial generators in the 500 kW to 3 MW range run almost exclusively on diesel or natural gas, with diesel dominant in applications requiring fuel storage independence and natural gas preferred where a firm gas supply is available and piping costs are manageable. Engine manufacturers that define this market include Caterpillar (the C175 and 3516 series), Cummins (the QSK60 and QSK95 platforms), MTU (the Series 4000), Perkins (the 4000 series), and Rolls-Royce power systems derivatives.
Key specifications buyers in industrial applications evaluate include prime power rating versus standby rating (a genset rated 1000 kW standby may carry a 900 kW prime rating for continuous duty), single-bearing versus two-bearing alternator design, excitation system type, and voltage regulation tolerance. For facilities running sensitive automation or large motor loads, total harmonic distortion (THD) performance matters considerably.
Paralleling capability is also a common requirement. Many industrial facilities that previously ran a single large genset are transitioning to N+1 configurations using multiple paralleled units for redundancy. We finance both the individual generator sets and the paralleling switchgear that ties them together under one transaction if needed.
Buyers serving manufacturing and industrial end users encounter all of these spec considerations, and our underwriters understand the application context rather than treating all generators as interchangeable assets.
Large industrial generators, particularly those installed as permanent standby infrastructure at a plant or utility facility, often carry substantial equity. A 1.5 MW CAT or Cummins set installed four years ago at original cost of $800,000 may appraise at $500,000 to $600,000 in today's used market. That equity can be extracted through a sale-leaseback without disrupting operations, putting capital back into the business for other uses.
We see this most frequently from two types of sellers: manufacturing plants that installed emergency generation during a specific project or grant period and now want to recover capital, and independent power producers who are upgrading to newer, more efficient units and want to fund the upgrade by pulling equity from the equipment being replaced.
A sale-leaseback works by transferring title to us while you retain full use under a lease agreement. The lease payment replaces the equity, and you book the cash. At lease end, a dollar buyout option returns ownership at a nominal cost.
Industrial generator purchases often involve larger dollar amounts than typical commercial transactions. For deals up to $400k, we run application-only. Above that threshold, we'll ask for business financial statements, ideally 12 to 24 months of P&L and balance sheet data, along with the usual three months of bank statements.
Credit scoring is one input, not the whole answer. We've funded plenty of manufacturers and plant operators who had a rough couple of years on paper but whose core operations were healthy and whose emergency power infrastructure was a non-discretionary purchase. If you can show us that the business operates, that revenue exists, and that the asset serves a real production function, the conversation moves forward.
For operators with challenged credit history, we structure around larger down payments, shorter terms, or additional collateral when available. The goal is to get the machine funded, not to find a reason to decline.
Industrial standby power installations rarely involve the generator alone. The complete system includes an automatic transfer switch to manage the transition from utility to generator power, fuel storage in the form of a sub-base tank or above-ground diesel tank, exhaust systems, and in many cases sound attenuation enclosures for facilities in noise-sensitive industrial parks.
We can finance the generator set and the ancillary components as a bundled transaction when they're purchased together as a package. That's often simpler than running separate deals for the genset, the ATS, and the enclosure.
For operators who need to move quickly on a plant commissioning schedule, our one- to two-week funding timeline is often faster than the lead time on the equipment itself. Submit your deal now, and the financing is in place before the unit ships from the factory or the seller's warehouse.
Industrial generators are non-negotiable infrastructure. We fund large-frame diesel and gas gensets from $50k, new or used, in one to two weeks. B and C credit considered. Submit your deal and let's get the power on.
Questions About Industrial Generator Financing
Straight answers before you send the generator file.
Can I finance a used industrial generator purchased from a plant decommissioning sale?
Yes. Plant disposal purchases are eligible provided the unit has clear title documentation and acceptable operating condition. We'll ask for hours, service records, and an equipment description. Appraisals may be required on higher-value transactions.
Does the sub-base fuel tank get included in the financed amount?
If the tank is purchased and installed as part of the same project, we can often include it in the financing transaction. Tell us the complete scope of what you're buying and we'll structure accordingly.
Can a manufacturer with thin margins still qualify for industrial generator financing?
Yes. We focus on cash flow and revenue history, not margin percentages. Manufacturing businesses often run lean margins; that doesn't automatically disqualify them. The consistency and level of revenue matter more than the margin.
What if the generator I'm buying is installed internationally but I'm a US business?
We finance transactions for US-based businesses acquiring US-located equipment. Equipment located outside the US falls outside our standard programs.
How is an industrial generator financed differently than a commercial genset?
The primary differences are transaction size, documentation requirements above $400k, and the underwriting focus. Industrial applications often involve larger, more site-specific units, and we take the specific installation context into account when evaluating the deal.
